Workshop with Bob Barton: How Do I Tell This Story?
The storyteller (writer) of traditional tales is expected to be more than a mindless mimic. There are also responsibilities to the tale. Before reshaping the tale for retelling we must enter the tale and allow it to enter us. What does the tale say? What does it mean? Does it have more than one meaning? More than two? Which words of the characters are crucial and which casual? In this workshop we will explore a story actively in order to consider options open to the storyteller (writer).

Workshop: Writing a Memoir with Sharon Butala
The memoir concentrates on an aspect of one's life, or may be about someone else's as seen through the memorist's eyes and relationship. A memoir is literature, not only family history, and ordinary lives can make compelling memoirs. The best memoirs ask unexpected questions about the meaning of life, and provide unconventional answers or, at least, enlightening meditation, and thus open readers to new ways of thinking about their lives.
